Food allergies are very serious and can be difficult to manage. There are significant health and safety risks along with emotional stress. We are happy to be able to provide education for families and much needed support. Sue Kelly, our nurse manager and facilitator, has an extensive background in supporting families successfully navigate food allergies. Please read below to learn more:
Susan Kelly BSN, RN is the nurse manager at Happy and Healthy Pediatrics, Mineola, NY. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton in 1996 and is pursuing her master’s degree in public health at Hofstra University. As the mom of four daughters, including a teenage daughter who has food allergies, she is passionate about empowering people with food allergies to live life safely and to the fullest, while also advocating for this population. She understands the daily challenges of raising a resilient child with this serious health condition. Her past experience as a hospital nurse includes working in general medicine, cardiology, the electrophysiology lab, the medical intensive care unit, and the emergency room. She has also worked for board certified allergist and immunologist, Dr. Marc Sicklick, Cedarhurst, NY. Susan has served as the Vice President of Education for the national nonprofit allergy organization, FAACT, The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Connection Team. She is a public speaker and writer and has been featured in Allergic Living Magazine and AllergyForce.com. She serves as a member of Nassau County’s Medical Reserve Corps and is the chairperson of Lynbrook’s Health and Wellness Committee. This workshop will provide education on managing these allergies, provide support tactics and help families manage overall stress associated.
